My review:

This book was interesting for me to read. This was a society who feared mages and ket them sequestered from the other people. I was fascinated by it.

The story was great. A mage is getting transferred from old bastillion to a new one and her envoy gets attacked. Desperate to protect herself and the sentinels, she does magic through her bonds. She ends up transporting them far away from the scene of the battle.

If the author continued writing the story from Kalinda’s perspective, it would have been boring. Adding Gideon/Eris story would have completed the story. But when I got into Milo/Flint’s issues then it became confusing and dragged the story down.

I liked Kali and Stonewall’s characters. I liked that the author did a slow burn for the romance instead of Instalove. I didn’t feel them as a couple, at all. Because the romance was later on in the book and she was taken away from him before they could bump uglies. I’m not too sure if they did have sex. The scene where they were in the inn and making out didn’t say if they did or not. I went with no but I could be wrong. It was vaguely written.

The book ended like I thought it would. There was no huge twist and I saw what happened from a mile away. With the way the book ended, there was no doubt that there is a 2nd book coming.

How many stars will I give Incursion? 3/3.5

Why? A wonderfully written story that was a quick read. A little predictable at times and a little vague (see above) at times. But definitely keeps you focused on the book.

Will I reread? Yes

Will I recommend to family and friends? Yes

Age range: Teens on up

Why? Violence and maybe sex that was very vague.

Back in February, I reviewed Deadbeat and loved it. When I got contacted by the author to review Skintrade, I was excited about reading it.

I wasn’t disappointed.

Jake was his usual badass self and was continuing his search for Donnie. While he was in Nashville, he meets Heather. He finds out that her daughter was kidnapped by human traffickers. Jake decides to look for Kelsey after hearing that the local cops aren’t squatting about it. That sets in motion a series of events proving his badass.

I have a bit of a book crush on Jake. This guy is unflippingbelievable, and in my eyes, he walks on water. He is the total package for a book crush. Who else can walk away from being captured by mercenaries and turn it around on them? Jake can!!!

There was very little of Randy in the book, but that’s OK. I dealt with it. I did get to meet Grey and Russ (hopefully, there will be more Randy in his next book!!!).

The ending of the book was perfect. I must say that everyone got what was coming to them. EVERYONE got what they deserved.

I would recommend Skin Trade to anyone over 21. There are sexual situations and violence.

I am a sucker for historical romances. I love the period clothes, the women courting, and the ton’s description, love it all. I love the Scots from this period. They are bad boys in every book I read, and I love it.

This book was no exception to that. But I wouldn’t class Colin as a “bad boy.” He has PTSD and survivor’s guilt after fighting with the English Army at Waterloo. Emilia is his kindred spirit. She had been abused by her father and carries internal and external scars. Colin and Emilia touched my heart because of what they had gone through.

The story was good. Who doesn’t like a little mystery and intrigue in your romance? I know I do!!!

The only thing I can even complain about with this book is that it is the 3rd book in the series. This is not a standalone book. The characters from the old books come into play here. They talk about what happened in previous books. Which annoyed me.

I would recommend Highland Temptation to anyone over 21. There are sex scenes and a couple of scenes where Emilia is beaten.

This book was good.

Told from the viewpoint of Old Dark, it embraced how society perceives dragons and runs with it. Greedy, vicious leaders who won’t hesitate to destroy a village to make a point. Loved it!! Not too often that you read a book that 100% supports the bad guy.

What I loved is that the author refused to kill Old Dark. Instead, he had him cursed in an attack. That curse went wrong, and he fell asleep for 1,000 years. While he was asleep, humans, elves, and dragons coexisted peacefully. Dragons were no longer feared, and they worked with humans. Elves can use magic, and magic defines their whole society. Humans and elves can marry and have children. There was a downside. Magic was being drained from wells faster than it could replenish itself.

This is where Miri Charmwell and Lucan Grimoire were introduced. Miri is a professor in the Department of Magical Sciences. Lucan is running for governor. They get thrown together when he discovers a dragon tomb in the middle of the Ancestral Bogs. He needs her to help him discover whose tomb it was.

At first, I didn’t care for Lucan or Miri’s characters. Miri grew on me. Lucan comes across as a jerk, and the author did nothing to dissuade from that impression.

I loved the latter part of the book. Not going to give anything away, but it was great. The ending was perfect. I can’t wait to read the next book!!

I would recommend Old Dark to anyone over 16. There are some sexual situations and violence

I will start this review by saying you must read Sands and Storms first. Skies is not a standalone book. I made the mistake of not reading Sands and Storms before reading Skies, and I was so confused that I ended up stopping reading Skies, buying Sands and Storms, reading them, and then restarting Skies. This is why I didn’t have my review ready when it was released.

Lhaurel’s character progressed from the first 2 books, and I felt awful that she was shut off from her powers. I also felt bad that she was held captive by those creepy Sisters. When I think of Sisters, I think of kind little nuns in their habits. From what I gleaned about these Sisters, they are the opposite. They wear tight-fitting clothes, filed their teeth to points, and were generally badass bitches that no one wanted to mess with. I loved it. I did like Talha. She seemed the most easy-going out of all the Sisters.

The other storyline focused on Gavin and his band of Rahuli. Gavin is having a hard time being the ruler and trying to keep the peace with the head of the village. Brisson kept reminding Gavin of the hardship the Rahuli are putting on his people, and Gavin keeps reminding Brisson that his people could help. It’s a stalemate until Gavin decides he has had enough and forces Brisson to accept him as an equal.

Not going to go too much into that storyline, but I was impressed with how it ended up, and I loved the twist at the end. Absolutely freaking loved it. There were hints pointing to the twist, but I was still surprised when it came.

Lhaurel’s storyline was a little more complicated but just as enthralling. I liked the waking dreams, and the end of her story was not what I expected. I honestly thought that it would go another way.

The author did leave it open for a 4th book. But no cliffhangers. He wrapped up each storyline so that it closed the door to that story and opened a new door for the next story.

I would recommend Skies to anyone over 16. There is violence but otherwise is a clean book.

I mean, we have all heard them. What the author did is backtrack from the murder and examined the circumstances.

This is the 3rd book in a series, so it could be a standalone book. There were a few references to past books, but other than that, this book was its own animal.

I was not too fond of Helena’s (Hela’s) or Teodor’s characters. Hela came across as a spoiled brat, and Teodor came across as a cold, unfeeling person. He had this edge when comforting people, which made me uncomfortable.

The plot was fantastic, and it was fast-paced. The two storylines meet up towards the end of the book. The way that the author did it was great!!! I couldn’t put my finger on the murderer/vigilante. It could have been anyone. The big twist at the end was a surprise.

I would recommend Rage to anyone over 21. There is explicit sex, instructions on how to kill someone with lye balls, a descriptive scene where a man is throat raped with a pole, and mild language.

Before reading Brain Storm, I had never been disappointed in a book. I had such high hopes for it by the Goodreads descriptions and all the 4 and 5-star reviews. I was like, “Yes, this is going to be awesome to read,” and it was for the first few chapters.

I enjoyed reading about Angela’s job, her community, and her friends. The author did a great job setting up her backstory. Then the misdiagnosis and stroke happened, and this is where the book took a nosedive. We got to read all about Angela’s recovery and her hallucinations. That wasn’t bad, but there was so much going on in the backstory!!!

Like the Angel of Death working at the hospital, the little boy dying because Dr. Gravois testified before the insurance company that he didn’t need treatment, and the romance between Monty and Kate. The focus, instead, was on Dr. Tritt and the accusations that he killed Dr. Gravois. Which was silly.

The ending was anticlimactic, and I didn’t have that “Aha” moment when the bad guy was caught. Because the said bad guy didn’t show up until 3 chapters before the end.

There were some redeeming qualities to this book. The author knew how to make a character come off the page, and she knew how to make you care about the main characters. Which is huge in a book.

I would recommend Brain Storm to anyone over 16. There is minimal violence, no sex, and a gruesome car accident description.

This book is electric, right from the get-go.

Mia Donovan is what my mother-in-law would call a firecracker, and I loved it. I didn’t expect any less and would have been disappointed if the author had written her any other way. Even the way she introduced herself to Finn was gold. I loved it!!

I didn’t care for Finn’s character at first. I get he’s an Alpha male and thought he could protect himself from his stalker. To take the risks he did the first day was stupid, and he didn’t listen to Mia. Made me want to slap and shake him.

I was shocked at how fast they had sex. They didn’t even know each other for a week. The more I thought about it, and it made sense. They were together 24/7, with no breaks, and attracted to each other. I liked that they entered the relationship as adults. Except for the no-condom sex and taking each other’s word that they were clean. You couldn’t pay me any money to do that with someone I had just met.

Mia being undercover was a hoot, and I giggled when she became an airhead. It cracked me up. I laughed at every single scene.

Finn’s issues with his ex weren’t funny. He let her put his name through the mud because he’s nice. I will say that it reminds me of the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard saga going on.

The stalker’s identity and the end of the book were a little bit of a shock to me. The stalker wasn’t who I pegged. I wasn’t expecting the book to end the way it did. I did get a little misty-eyed at it !!

I would recommend Protect Me to anyone over 21. There is sex, language, and violence.

Ever start off reading a book, read the first chapter, and think, “How am I going to get through this book”? Then make yourself continue reading the book and end up getting surprised.

Yeah, this happened to me with this book. I wanted to put it down and mark it as a DNF on my shelf. As I continued reading, I saw glimmers of a promising storyline and kept reading.

I started the book not liking Logan. I know he is a professional soccer player and had no time for a baby. The way he found out he had one (birth mom dumped the baby on him at a restaurant and left) was a shock. A big shock. Here is what got me, wouldn’t you immediately get a DNA test done to prove that the baby was yours?? I would. He did redeem himself; I started to like him and then loved him by the end of the book.

I was iffy with Isabella too. She went from an uptight, stuffy nanny to banging her boss within a couple of weeks. Didn’t fly with me because she made such a big deal about it at the beginning of the book. A whole chapter is dedicated to it. Then the next chapter, she slept with him. Made me scratch my head and go, “WTH.“

The only reason I kept reading the book was because of the plot. Take what I said about the characters and forget about it. The book had a good solid story about a man who was told he was a father, had the baby dumped on him, and rose to the occasion. The characters cared about baby Cinnamon, her well-being, and her welfare. That is what kept me reading. Isabella and Logan loved that baby and were willing to do anything to keep her safe.

The romance between Logan and Isabella wasn’t believable. They had nothing in common except for Cinnamon. Isabella was being all sorts of shady about her big secret with Logan. I am not going to give away her secret, but not letting yourself get into relationships because of it isn’t cool. All I am going to say on that.

The ending was perfect for the book, and I loved the very last pages of the book. All I had to say was, “You rock, Logan!!!“.

I would recommend Hard to Hold to anyone over 21. There is sex and language.

I wasn’t sure what to think of this book in the first couple of chapters. The book was slow in the first couple of chapters. I struggled through those chapters because of the above issues. Get past those first few chapters; the book is a great read!!!

I enjoyed the storyline. A serial killer comes back. A cop remembers his past life, tries to find his lost love, and develops psychic premonitions. How all 3 are melded together makes a fascinating story. Throw in some very creepy stanzas from “The Ballad of Reading Gaol,” and the story becomes chilling.

From the minute I met Sean Jamison, the pace of the book picked up. When all his past lives return, he becomes obsessed with finding his long-lost soul mate. When he finds her, he is devastated that she doesn’t remember him or their lives together. But not is all that it seems, and there was a twist in that storyline that made me go, “Seriously.”

I wish that there were more scenes with the serial killer. He was a creeper, and I wish the author had spent more time in his brain. Once Darla was killed, the serial killer wasn’t in the story until the end.

The author shouldn’t have made Sean’s captain fall in love with him. Only Sean dropped that past-life tidbit on her in the office. It went from being cute and obsessive after finding his soul mate to creepy and gross.

The ending was great and, for the book, perfect. The author brought all the storylines together in a way that satisfied me. Nothing was left open-ended, which was great.

I would recommend Death Unmasked to anyone over 21. There is violence, rape, and murder.
