May 2025 Wrap-Up

Personal Highlights from this month:

  • Mr. Z got inducted into the National Technical Honor Society.
  • Mr. Z was exempt from all of his teachers ‘ tests, and school ended for him on May 16th.
  • Miss R graduated from 5th grade/elementary school on May 22nd. It was a cute ceremony.

Blog/Reading Highlights from this month:

  • I started The Invisibles series with Don’t Let Go. It was a good read. I was disappointed because the series was removed from KU (I had it slated as my next series read). I guess I’ll wait for the author to re-add it to KU.
  • I started and finished the Kiss a Cowboy series. After all the horror I read last month and the heavy subject matter of the previous book, I was happy to read a series where no one got killed on page, and love was in the air. I enjoyed reading these books.
  • I started The Wedding Date series with May the Best Man Win. I thought it was going to be a light, fun read. And, in some ways, it was. However, it also discusses some heavy subjects and how they affect the characters. I enjoyed the book and am looking forward to when the rest of the series goes on KU.
  • I read the prologue and the first book of The Blindfold Club series. This is a bit of a warning: these books are erotica. The author doesn’t even bother to hide this in the prologue. In book 1, she attempted to give some sort of storyline, but most of the book was erotica. I want to finish reading the series, but am not in any rush.
  • I read the first book of the A Changed World series. It was interesting, and I am looking forward to the rest of the series’ appearance on KU.
  • I read and finished the King’s Girl duology. This book is about the Filles du Roi, women sent from France between 1663 and 1673 to become wives to the male settlers there. I found it fascinating because I am descended from a Filles du Roi (I can trace my paternal grandfather’s history back to that era). The books themselves were well written and filled with nuggets of historical facts.
  • I read Seducing the Master. It was an interesting book. Historical erotica that focuses on BDSM doesn’t come across my desk very often. This was a slow read, and the sex scenes seemed a little stretched out in parts.
  • I read and finished the Body Shrine series in one night. Each book was between 40 and 50 pages. Again, this was a series that I was “meh” about. The violence, along with the super rough sex, didn’t do it for me.
  • I read the Wild Card duology. These books had been on my TBR for years, and I was excited when I finally read them.
  • I read the first three books of the Shadows in the Dark series. These books are dark (see the trigger warnings for all three books) and contain a lot of sex. The author weaved good storylines throughout the book, which is very rare for an erotica author. I am waiting for the rest of the series to come onto KU.
  • I started reading the It’s Reigning Men series. After the previous nine books, I needed something that didn’t have as heavy a subject matter or have as much graphic violence and sex as those books did. I got it with Something in the Heir. I look forward to finishing the rest of the series once it goes on KU.
  • I read the first book of The Daughters of the Aristocracy series. While I liked it, the book dragged big time in the middle. It took me four days to finish it (which is long for me). However I am curious and willing to read the other books in the series.
  • I read and finished Nighttime Face. It was an interesting read. The author combined Norse and some Greek mythology with paranormal and modern-day issues.
  • I read and finished the Southern Comfort series. I enjoyed this series and genuinely feel these books would be great beach reads. They were light but had enough drama to keep me reading. The romance was cute, and the sex scenes were just enough (you knew what they were doing, but it didn’t get graphic).
  • I read the first book in the Lone Star Cowboys series, Blame It on Texas. I enjoyed it and can’t wait for the rest of the books to be added to KU.
  • I started reading the Scars of the Wraiths series. I am not expecting to read the entire series (which is on KU) before the end of the month (Friday), so there will be a carryover in June.

Ellie Ford’s life is moving along beautifully. In three days, she will become the wife of her longtime fiancé, Luke Baker. There isn’t any downside to that until she finds that dreaded note in Luke’s pants pocket. Her romantic ideal of marital bliss becomes her worst nightmare, with Luke in the leading role as a two-timing cheater. To Ellie, the idea of canceling the wedding without notice is unthinkable. But on their special day, Luke is the one absent from the ceremony. The honeymoon Ellie was so looking forward to suddenly becomes a vacation with Gina—her dearest friend—to Charleston, her favorite city. Within a month, Ellie loads up her beloved jasmine plant and moves south. Falling for Donovan Winthrop, the gallery owner and accomplished artist, isn’t on Ellie’s bucket list, but she can’t help herself. He’s gorgeous, sweet, and a true southern gentleman—or is he? Donovan has a few secrets of his own that he doesn’t want to share. Revealing their secrets to each other is the only way they can move forward as a couple, but a wrench is suddenly thrown into their plans when Luke Baker arrives in Charleston, ready to make amends with Ellie and take her home. Ellie must decide whether to stay and begin a new romance or leave and slip back into the familiarity of an old one. Feeling torn, Ellie has a lot to think about—and two men waiting for her answer. Jasmine Kisses, Book Two, in the Southern Comfort series, is a sweet romantic novel that will appeal to fans of romance, chick-lit and women’s fiction novels. Southern Comfort is a heartfelt series with best friends, hot guys, humor and just enough twists and turns to have you anxiously awaiting the next book. There are no cliffhangers in this series, but since the characters carry over, the books are best read in chronological order. What I recently finished reading:

Life sails along smoothly on beautiful St. Thomas for Abby Melrose Bellavance, or so she thinks. That is, until her husband Remy steals her trust fund and disappears for parts unknown. Now, with five million reasons to write off men for good, she returns to Charleston, broke and groveling at her mother’s feet.

Living again in the opulent mansion on South Battery, Abby is thrown another curve ball. Her mother passes away, leaving Abby with an enormous home but no money to support it.

Turning the mansion into a boardinghouse has its advantage—immediate cash—and disadvantage—two of the hottest men in Charleston are now Abby’s tenants.

Abby wants love again, especially with hunky Erik, the handyman, and sexy Brandon, the prominent attorney, living in the mansion with her. They are so different, yet they’re similar in one way she needs to avoid—they are men, and she should keep her distance.

As the southern summer blazes on, Abby’s life becomes even more complicated. Personal secrets are revealed, and fate deals her one final blow. She wonders if she will ever be given a second chance at falling in love.

What I plan on reading Thursday through Sunday:

If available men come in threes, Melanie Davis has hit the trifecta. Sweet, sexy Jackson Reed is handsome, spontaneous, and successful but a man-child magician at the tender age of twenty-two. Mel knows better and can’t come to grips with dating him. Their lives rotate in completely different stratospheres. John Richmond, on the other hand, is just right. He’s gorgeous, thoughtful, and thirty-four. He also lives thirteen hundred miles away in St. Thomas—smack in the middle of hurricane alley. A girl can’t catch a break—or can she? A chance meeting with hunky Dan DeLong, a sexy, tan veterinarian with Caribbean-blue eyes, might be exactly what the doctor ordered. Even better, he’s local, the perfect age, and has never been married. Is the third time the charm? Have the trifecta gods handed her the man of her dreams—and does she even want one? She wonders if she can actually find the perfect man and her own paradise right here, in the city she loves most—Charleston.
