Book synopsis (via Goodreads):

One touch of Spectra’s fingers leaves the predator Bay craving more.

Spectra is a Balance; a decadent of angels whose soul has been intertwined with that of sorcerer Alexander, although her heart belongs to Mercury, the son of an archangel.
Bay is a predator de Sang and sorcerer, who runs his own private security company, fighting the purist organization Essence. Seeking out Spectra for her special abilities the last thing he expected to find was a Balance strong enough to withstand his potent energy. With her heart and soul already claimed, could there be room for another in her life?

When Bay’s infatuations bring Spectra to the attention of Essence and put her life at risk, he must learn that sometimes sacrificing the ones you love is the only way to save them.

My review:

When I started reading Spectra, I went into it thinking that it was going to be one of those paranormal romances that focuses more on the sex than the story. Boy, was I wrong. While sex does get mainlined for a while, the real story ends up being the relationships that Spectra has with Bay, Merc and Alexander and, of course, the Essence storyline (which was fascinating).

Spectra was a tough chick. She was dealt a crap hand in life. Her sister was killed by a predator (think vampire/were animal), her mother just couldn’t deal and committed suicide when Spectra was 14. Then she is date raped after her college boyfriend slips her a Rufie and she dies from an allergic reaction to it. She is brought back to life and she makes it her life’s mission to help those who can’t help themselves (victims be it of abuse or other things).

Alexander was so sweet at first and then he morphed into a jerk. I was kinda taken aback when he did the 180 because it went against how he was portrayed. But when it was revealed why he morphed into a jerk, I wanted to reach into the book and smack him. Put it this way: Can’t have your cake and eat it too!!!

Next to Spectra, Merc was my favorite character in the book and he was a perfect fit with Spectra. Their relationship was a little strange (totally open, both were able to see/sleep with other people) but it worked for them because they didn’t get jealous. I mean, the first time we meet Merc, he is nailing a girl in Tommy’s bar……lol.

I wasn’t too sure about Bay at first. But the more I read, the more I started to like him and by the end of the book, I loved him. He also was a good fit with Spectra but, and stress but, because he was a predator (aka vampire) and a sorcerer (which is the first time I think that I have read those two being combined). He was the one the uncovered the wrongs that Alexander was doing to her, thinking that he was protecting her, and he was the one that was there, along with Merc, when Spectra needed him the most.

The whole storyline as to who Spectra’s father was and the storyline about exactly what she is was played out beautifully. I kinda felt bad for her when it was revealed who her father was, and a little shocked, to be honest. Then when Bay finds out exactly what she was, again it was a huge surprise to me. There were hints dropped throughout the book but I didn’t exactly put two and two together until Bay found out.

I would be a fool if I didn’t address the sex scenes. They were all hot. Very hot but what ruined them for me is that Spectra would go from one man’s bed to another in the same day. Also, the whole cumming in her until she was married. It was great (and that she insisted on condoms was awesome) until well, you have to read the book. I wish that it was carried out until the end because it was kinda different.

The ending was good but I couldn’t tell if there was going to be a book 2? I am so torn because there was so much left in the air.

How many stars will I give Spectra: 4

Why: A great paranormal/fantasy with hot sex scenes. The ending I was a little torn on and I wish there was better clarification on if there is going to be a book 2.

Will I reread: Yes

Will I recommend to family and friends: Yes

Age range: Adult

Why: Sex, violence, and language

Goodreads synopsis:

She’s Hume’n, a member of the lower class, with one chance to change her life… In an alternate, twenty-first century Boston, Dawn Jamison is a hair’s breadth away from earning her doctorate—a degree that would allow her entrance into the upper class, to become the unemotional and self-disciplined Cartesian she is now only pretending to be. To reach her goal, all Dawn must do is overcome her forbidden attraction to the Olympic-class weightlifter Taylor Stephenson who’s just crashed her lectures on past life regression. She must also teach her group of misfit students how to travel back into their past lives—and, oh, of course, figure out how to save the great scientists of the early eighteenth century before they’re inextricably caught up in a time loop.

He’s Cartesian, a member of the upper class, and supposed to know better… Coerced by his politically powerful, wheelchair-bound brother into spying on Dawn’s past-life regression classes, Taylor knows better than to give in to his desire to claim Dawn as his own. But his past-life entity, eighteenth-century Colin, has no such inhibitions. When Taylor and Dawn meet up in Scotland in the 1700s, all the discipline he’s forced on his twenty-first-century self disintegrates in the past, leaving only his overwhelming lust for Dawn’s past-life double, Lily. Unable to escape their sexually obsessive past, Dawn and Taylor find themselves in a race against the clock at the epicenter of a world-altering time quake of their own making.

My review:

Entangled is a fast-paced science fiction/steampunk romance. Told in 3rd person, the reader gets to follow Dawn Jamison, a bright young woman, in the lower class caste called the Hume’n, who is on the verge of getting her doctorate degree. By getting that degree, Dawn will be allowed into the upper class, a caste called the Cartesian. Her mentor is a brilliant scientist, Richard Stephenson, who is suspicious of her caste and asks his brother, Taylor, to spy on her. Taylor, an Olympic athlete who is questioning if he really is a Cartesian, agrees….only find out that he is immensely attracted to Dawn.

But Taylor is hiding his own secret….from Dawn and his brother. See, Taylor is able to travel back in time through lucid dreaming and he always ends up in the body of Colin, a brilliant young mathematician in the 1700’s. What he doesn’t know is that Dawn is able to go back in time too and she is Lily, a young female alchemist (aka scientist) and that both he/Colin and Dawn/Lily are going to be caught up in a time vortex brought on by their time traveling….as well as other factors.

***********************************

I really enjoyed reading Entangled. It is the type of book that is slow going, and it was for the first two chapters, but once it gets going, it really captures your attention and imagination. I mean, this world is separated into two castes….the Humens and the Cartesians. The Humens are considered a lower caste, the poor, and they make their life decisions on what can be derived through their senses and emotions and not just their rational minds. Because of their beliefs, the Humens are not allowed to get advanced degrees in anything. Meanwhile, the Cartesians believe that rational thinking and stoic detachment is the only way to get ahead in life and for the most part, they are successful. They are the upper class, the higher caste.

Dawn was one of my favorite characters. She was dedicated to keeping her Cartesian disguise so she could get an advanced degree, something that Humens are not allowed to do. She is a devoted sister to her twin brother, Max and a devoted friend to Naomi, a brilliant young hacker. She also is an expert on past lives and has been chosen to teach a class about them to a bunch of students who are on the verge of failing out but what Naomi is convinced is a think tank of some sort.

Taylor, I was kinda “eh” on at first. I don’t know why I was “eh” on him but I was. It wasn’t until the scenes with his brother that I started liking him and then when he got involved with Dawn, that I really started liking him. I also like that he questioned if the caste he was born into was really for him. I mean, he was an Olympic athlete but he was questioning why he didn’t like looking at himself flexing in the mirror.

The time travel scenes were very interesting in the fact that they took over the body of the person they were supposed to be. Like Dawn was Lily, an alchemist (aka scientist) who really liked the guys and was a witch and Taylor was Colin, who was a brilliant mathematician and who had the hots for Lily. But as soon as they started interacting with other people, the timeline got screwed up…badly. To the point where certain events in history never happened and were replaced with other events….if that makes sense.

The sex scenes between Dawn and Taylor were very steamy. Of course, the first sex scene between them was a little awkward and that was only because they were in Lily and Colin’s body. The second time was the same thing except they were at Taylor’s house and they ended up breaking the sexual curse by having sex and achieving orgasm. Every time after that, though, was very hot and very steamy.

What I really liked, though, was that girl power prevailed throughout the entire book. When one of the secondary storylines went haywire (the Q computer and that’s all I am saying about it), it was Naomi and Rasana, a preteen form Dawn’s class that she was teaching, that made it right. I also like the different spin on the witch burnings and how they were “saved”. (read the book).

The storylines were all merged and ended by the end of the book. They were all pretty much ended on a good note. What I did like was that the author left the book open for book 2.

How many stars will I give Entangled: 4

Why: What I liked the most about this book was the time travel and the steampunk elements in it. The romance was pretty good too.

Will I reread: Yes

Will I recommend to family and friends: Yes

Age range: Adult

Why: Explicit sex and some mild violence

Goodreads synopsis:

Geeks rule in this delightfully dangerous dragon adventure.

The badass dragon shifters of the Iron Claws motorcycle club will risk everything for the people they love. Cast out from their dragon clans, they must use their cunning and strength to defy the laws of their people and stay one step ahead of those determined to keep life-saving cures out of the hands of humans.

Brilliant, transgender shifter Alec Harper is trying to atone for his dark past by dedicating his life to healing humans. When it appears his life-saving drug may actually be a life-taking drug, Alec must race to discover the truth before more innocents die.

Vampire scientist Penelope O’Hara has been fascinated by all things supernatural for three hundred years. When Alec saves her from a sudden attack by dragon shifter goons, Penelope is pulled into a dangerous world of hackers, killers, and conspiracies. Logic tells her that the perils of being with someone from the Iron Claws are a bad idea, but her heart keeps telling her to stay.

This adult novella includes daring rescues, sexy science, and a nerdy romance that defies expectations.

My review:

Way back in book 1, Dylan and Marie’s story, it was revealed that Alec was transgendered and it intrigued me. See, I don’t think I have read a romance that had a transgendered man (or woman) as one of the main characters. I was very curious to see how the author would be writing the romance.  I wasn’t disappointed. Not only did the author did a great job writing the romance but Alec’s background as well.

I just wanted to hug Alec. The poor guy had been through the wringer and back before he joined the Iron Claws. I just wanted to cry when he thought he wouldn’t find his mate because of how he looked (male on the inside (dragon was male too), female on the outside). He was too male for some girls, too female for others and he just gave up looking for love. While he was happy for his friends, he was sad at the same time. He wanted what they had.

Penelope was a brilliant vampire scientist who was researching magic. She has a tragic past too but nothing like Alec’s. The reason she started studying magic was that when her brother was dying, she attempted a spell to cure him and it didn’t work. So she wanted to know why it worked for witches and not for her and that is what fueled her 300 year-long research.

The Iron Claws find out that Puff has been killing people and it throws everyone into an uproar and a tizzy. They know it is not true but they need to find a way to prove it. Alec decides to go for a walk and happens to run into Penelope, as she is getting a beat down on a sidewalk just down the street from AUDREY’s. Who was she getting a beat down from? Hired muscle from the Dragon High Council for reasons that are revealed later in the book. Being out in the daylight has drained her so when Alec offers his wrist to her to drink from, she takes it and feels overwhelmingly attracted to him.

The romance between Penelope and Alec did get off to a rocky start. See, Penelope couldn’t wrap her head around that while Alec had male blood, he still had the body of a woman. Alec was sure that while Penelope was attracted to him, she wouldn’t get past that Alec was still a woman in body (not in heart or soul, though). Obviously, they get together but it was interesting to see Penelope’s thought progress and then her “who cares” attitude when she gave in.

The sex scenes between Alec and Penelope were hot but sweet. I literally laughed out loud when Penelope unloaded a bunch of sex toys from her magic bag….including the Hulk. I was dying when she described it. I actually laughed so hard that BK wanted to know what I was laughing at. When I told him, he just looked at me and went “ooookkkaaayyy”.

The Dragon High Council really were in rare from this book. From framing the Iron Claws to beating Penelope down and bombing her lab, they were really bad guys. But the bad can fall and I really can’t wait to read the last book!!

The ending was great. Alec and Penelope’s story ended and the Puff killing people storyline was ended (thanks to Alec and Penelope) but the Dragon High Council storyline is still there. I cannot wait to see how this series ends!!

How many stars will I give Her Hacker Dragon: 5

Why: While the sex was great, it was the transgender storyline that made this book.

Will I reread: Yes

Will I recommend to family and friends: Yes

Age range: Adult

Why: Sex, violence, language

Goodreads synopsis:

This Rock Star shifter lives for his music and fights for his love.

The badass dragon shifters of the Iron Claws motorcycle club will risk everything for the people they love. Cast out from their dragon clans, they must use their cunning and strength to defy the laws of their people and stay one step ahead of those determined to keep life-saving cures out of the hands of humans.

Punk rocker Caesar de la Vega is a dragon shifter on the cusp of his big break. While performing a gig, he unexpectedly spots Nina, a one-night-stand from five years ago he can’t forget. But everything changes when a record label offers him fame, fortune, and a world tour which would send him far away. With his motorcycle club in constant peril from the Dragon High Council, Caesar must choose between stardom and those he loves.

Nina Alvarez is a successful freelance programmer who loves the freedom of her nomadic life. When Nina notices her old flame is back in town, she can’t resist checking out the sexy rock star from her past. When he shows he still cares about her after so many years apart, Nina believes they may have something special. But with danger closing in on the Iron Claws, can Nina still be a part of Caesar’s world?

This steamy novella for adults features power ballads, slippery assassins, and a romance that rocks.

My review:

When I saw that this novella was going to feature Caesar and I got really excited. Caesar really wasn’t talked about in the previous 2 books and that built an air of mystery around him. All I really got from the other two books was that he was a musician on the brink of stardom and that he used CD’s to sell Puff. Oh, and let’s not forget that he was deliciously hot. So I figured that this book would be mainly music-themed and I was right.

Like I said about, Caesar was hot and he was pining after the one who got away. The girl who taught him how to knit. He even wrote a song about her, “Knitting Girl”. So when Nina shows up at one of his shows, he decides to take his chance and run with it.

I thought Nina was so adorable. She truly loved Caesar but figured their time together (told in flashback) was just a fling. Another notch on Caesar’s belt, so to speak. She went on with her life but couldn’t contain herself when she saw he was back in town. She had to go and see him. I really liked when she met the Iron Claws. She fit right in with them.

The Dragon High Council was still skulking around, trying to take down the Iron Claws. I will say that their newest scheme was pretty ingenious and all I have to say is thank god Alec had such mad hacking skills and figured everything out.

I did like the tie into Alpha’s MatesI was a little surprised at who Titus was to Caesar. Not a little surprised, a lot surprised (want to find out….read the book).

Nina and Caesar’s sex scenes were hot, hot, hot. But what I liked about these scenes was that they were truly in love (not that the other’s weren’t) and they waited 5 years to declare their love to each other.

Nina and Caesar’s storyline was resolved in this book but the storyline about Puff and The Dragon High Council was not. I can’t wait to see what will happen in the next book.

How many stars will I give Her Rock Star Dragon: 4

Why: Great read with memorable characters and out of this world sex scenes.

Will I reread: Yes

Will I recommend to family and friends: Yes

Why: Sex, language

Goodreads synopsis:

Dangerously tasty

Ned is tired of being underestimated. He’s a motorcycle-riding dragon shifter who kicks ass and bakes a mean cheesecake. When a mission for his biker club, the Iron Claws, leads Ned to the famously promiscuous tiger shifter clan, he finds much more than he bargained for.

Maya’s a cunning tiger shifter and her clan’s head of security. She has always defied her clan’s sex-obsessed ways, but meeting handsome, sensitive Ned makes her question her cynical views. When Ned’s club is attacked, Maya and Ned are thrown into a battle with deadly stakes. Will Maya be willing to lose all she has to save Ned?

This novella for adults includes daring rescues, drool-worthy desserts, and a love that can’t be whisked away.

My review:

I will admit that I had a “moment” when reading Her Delicious Dragon. As I started reading, I was thinking to myself “Ned seems awfully familiar” but I couldn’t place him. It was when he was telling Maya about his past that the darn light bulb went “Ding”. Ned was the bellhop in Alpha’s Domain and Alpha’s Christmas Flame. The bellhop that I thought, for some reason, was a teenager. Don’t ask me why I thought that. I just assumed it (remember that old saying about assuming…..yeah).

Ned was a sweetheart in this book. I mean, what guy would not make a move on a girl in the middle of an orgy. Ned!!! He was also somewhat of a pacifist (I say somewhat because he did see action in the first book) and he could cook. My mouth was watering at the descriptions of what he baked and I thought to myself “I wish he was real. I would kidnap him and keep him in my kitchen”. Then thought “Yeah, BK would LOVE that”….lmao.

Maya was not your typical tiger shifter. Tiger shifters banged anything with two legs (or more) and did not believe in monogamy but Maya, well she was different. I did like her but she came off as prickly at the beginning of the book. Real prickly but it was explained why she was the way she was and it made sense.

The sex, as always, was insanely hot. I really enjoyed the talons and claws that were used to shred clothing. Not torn off but shredded. Always a sign of great sex….lol.

The Puff storyline was in full force and of course, the Dragon High Council made a big appearance towards the end. Which made me think….what else could they have up their sleeves?

How many stars will I give Her Delicious Dragon: 4

Why: A great book with hot sex scenes and a fantastic storyline.

Will I reread: Yes

Will I recommend to family and friends: Yes

Goodreads synopsis:

Sexy dragon shifter Dylan Masters seeks redemption for his past by hunting for the Iron Claws, a motorcycle club of exiled dragons with an illicit agenda. When Dylan finally joins them, he is thrown into a new world of shady dealings and powerful enemies. Even in the midst of chaos, everything changes when he lays eyes on the Iron Claws’s brilliant Latina nurse, Marie.

Curvaceous Marie rides alongside the Iron Claws as their human medic, journeying from town to town dispensing magical remedies to those in desperate need. Experience has taught her to shield her heart, but when the dashing Dylan joins the club, she may have finally found a reason to let her guard down. But will her dangerous past cut her happiness short once more?

This adult novella includes naughty nurses, dramatic dragon brawls, and a passionate love that heals all wounds.

My review:

I know I have said this in past reviews, but A.J. Tipton is fast becoming one of my favorite paranormal/fantasy/romance/erotica writers. I was super excited to read the Her Biker Dragon series and I wasn’t let down. This series was fantastic and the books had me hooked. I think I devoured the series in 2 days.

Dylan was a hottie with a sad history. I can see why he wanted to join the Iron Claws and distribute Puff (by the way, love the play on wordage there….I was singing “Puff the Magic Dragon” in my head the entire series). He was an investigator and wanted to bring his skills to the club. His reaction, and his dragon’s, to Marie was great and I really like that he didn’t beat around the bush to get what he wanted.

Marie had an equally sad back story. She found out about Puff when Big Joe gave her some while she was dying of cancer in a hospital and she decided to join their cause. But there was also a far more sinister reason she was more than willing to go on the run with the Iron Claws as their medic (read the book!!).

The sex scenes between Dylan and Marie were hot, hot, hot. I was also pretty excited that I finally got a peek into the back room at AUDREY’s. I was a little let down, though. I thought it was going to be more interesting instead of being your standard backroom…lol. But still, the sex went there….haha.

The storylines were pretty simple. The Puff one wasn’t resolved by any means (even though there was a pretty awesome fight scene) but Marie’s was.

How many stars will I give Her Valiant Dragon: 4

Why: I enjoyed reading this short story. The storylines were great, the sex scenes were hot and I loved the dragon MC!!

Book synopsis:

Nick Geary, jaded clan leader of human guardians, the Keepers, is doomed to love a human woman who’s forgotten him, time after time, for thirteen years: Libby Klink, a skittish accountant who’s as terrified of her recent and strange intuitions as she is of her mundane existence.

When Nick is ordered by the clan’s guiding force to seek Libby’s help in defending the clan against enemy Betrayers, romance sizzles as the pair forms an unlikely alliance in their desperate search to discover the key to the clan’s salvation–which Libby alone holds.

But a haunting secret could cost Nick everything, and in a race against time, both will be forced to choose between their hearts and duty. Can their love, and the clan, survive, or will the very forces that drew them together ultimately destroy them?

My review:

A mysterious group is meeting on the top of a mountain to discuss specific events. Events that could be disastrous to their people if not stopped. The only way to stop/change the events is to set in motion a series of events that could help them or could mean the end of their people.

Meanwhile

Libby Klink is stuck in the mother of all traffic jams, late for work, and about to have a massive panic attack. She has severe anxiety about driving because of the accident she was in when she was 12. That accident killed her mother. Not only that, but she is smelling different scents around people, and she is having dreams about people that she doesn’t know. She also is still recovering from the death of her father six months before. To put it mildly, she’s a mess.

As she inches along the highway, she notices a man walking down the highway, looking into cars. Looking for someone, and he is heading in her direction. When he gets to her car, not only does he know her first and last name, but he seems vaguely familiar. Lowering her passenger side window, he says that he is unarmed, and when she asks who he is, says his name is Nick Geary and that he needs to talk to her. Knowing her name freaks her out, so she lays on the horn. That attracts the attention of the guy in the truck in front of her.

While she is staring at Nick, she experiences something like a day-dream that involves her father and a fishing trip that they had taken when she was younger. She blinks, comes to the present, sends her would-be rescuer away, and lets Nick into her car.

They drive to Nick’s truck, where he tells her that he needs her help but can’t tell her what because he doesn’t know. Then he tells her to get into the car, which she refuses to do. It is when Nick tells her that her life might be in danger and explains a few things that she gets into the truck

Nick explains that he is a Keeper, and he protects humans like Libby from these evil guys called Betrayers. Betrayers feed off of human weaknesses and Keepers Vitality (a stone that they wear around their necks). He validates everything that he said by telling her of the memory of her father she had in her car. He promises to protect her; she believes him and gets into the truck.

As Nick and Libby have that conversation and Nick are taking Libby to his parent’s house, the bad guy is introduced. His name is Haenus Vickery. He is wondering why Nick was protecting Libby and wants to know what her deal is. As he walks, he remembers his mate, Genevieve, who I am going to assume died at some point in his past, and he is thinking out the details of the next step in the war against the Keepers. Haenus is hoping to overthrow them, somehow, so that fear and hopelessness reigned.

Nick explains more of what a Keeper does as they drive to his parents. He shares that his cousin and best friend, Dev, died after a Betrayer got him alone and stole his vitality, last week. Nick explains that the Watchers, beings that live in another realm parallel to the humans, send things called Compulsions to the Keepers with who they are supposed to help. He explains that Keepers live in Clans and that they are all connected.

Then a weird thing happens. Nick and Libby are hit by a car and approached by a knife-wielding woman who is screaming that they cut her off. Seeing no choice, Nick cuts across the highway median to make his getaway. As they are driving the opposite direction, Libby is full of questions about Nick, and he does his best to answer them. It was during that conversation that both get a compulsion about a woman in trouble in an alley.

On their way to help her, Nick discovers that she can smell things, like the whiskey that the woman had been drinking. She confirms that and tells him that only since her father died that she has been able to smell things. Libby tells Nick that she wants to help him, and he says no. But she doesn’t listen and is forced into a confrontation with Haenus. As he is draining Nick, she hurts Haenus, and that makes him stop. Nick, before the encounter with Haenus, kisses Libby and finds out something startling. She isn’t what she seems to be.

This book was not what I thought it was going to be. I felt that it was going to be a thriller/suspense book. Not a romance/thriller/suspense, and it took me by surprise. I loved it!!!

I could relate to Libby. As someone who has pretty severe anxiety, I liked how she was portrayed. I liked how her taking medication wasn’t used as a crutch but explained that she needed it to do daily things. She was such a strong person, and I thought the author did a great job of bringing it out.

Nick was perfect for Libby, and I sincerely wish that he existed in real life. He waited 13 years and had to deal with her forgetting him every time he helped her, which sucked because he was head over heels for her. I do think that the way that they finally met was a tad weird (hello, middle of the freeway), and maybe the love angle was rushed. But when the end of your world is about to happen, you can’t wait for months.

Haenus was a bad dude. My mental image of him was like a vampire except that he could come out during the day. I did also have a smidge of sympathy for him because his wife died, but that quickly got swept away with how evil he was to Libby.

The sex between Nick and Libby was hot, and dare I say sweet? I have never said sex was sweet before, but this was, and I might have wept a little during it because of the feeling between both of them. As I said, I wish Nick was real.

The ending was PERFECT!!! I couldn’t have ended a book any better, and the author did a great job in setting up Dev’s story.

I would give The Keeper an Adult rating. There is sex. There is language. There is mild violence. I would recommend that no one under the age of 21 read this book.

I would reread The Keeper. I would recommend it to family and friends.

Book synopsis:

A sexy fireman broken from his last rescue. A beautiful bear shifter hiding from her family’s fame. When magical secrets are discovered, will their love stand strong after the smoke clears?

Dean Michaelson loved being a firefighter until he was injured on duty. When his new job as a fire inspector takes him to the ice hotel where Donna works, he fears he’s stumbled upon a nuclear deathtrap. Suspecting the lusciously curvy manager, Donna, is hiding the truth, Dean has no choice but to investigate on his own, unaware he is entering an underworld of danger and magic. Will the attraction building between Dean and Donna be extinguished before it has a chance to spark?

The brilliant bear shifter Donna Mechka is a billionaire in hiding, working the desk at a magical ice hotel. She wants to throw aside the reputation of her wealthy family and find somebody who loves her for her mind, not her money. When a human ex-firefighter, Dean, walks into her hotel on Christmas Eve, it seems she might have found the man of her dreams. But when Dean’s investigations bring him closer to discovering the hotel’s magical secrets, Donna must decide which is more important: protecting the hotel, or her budding love.

Alpha’s Christmas Flame is a holiday, paranormal romance novella in the “Bear Shifter Billionaire” series, a set of stand-alone stories that sizzle and satisfy. If you like brave pixies, smoldering strip poker, and holiday heat, then you’ll love this breathtaking book.

My review:

Dean Michaelson hates Christmas. He was injured fighting a fire last Christmas, and his injury has landed him on a desk job. Not where he wants to be. He wants to be out there, fighting fires and not going to upscale hotels, doing annual inspections of their fire and emergency precautions. And not dealing with receptionists who are either ignoring him or buttering him up for something.

Donna Mechka is working at the front desk at the Wondernasium Hotel when this hot firefighter walks in and tells her that he needs to do an annual inspection. She tries to put him off, explaining that they are short-staffed due to the flu and a bellhop who decided to join a motorcycle club. He checks into the hotel and, when Donna is distracted, he decides to go check things out by himself.

Which ends up to be not such a smart thing. In Dean’s snooping, he opens a door called the electrical room and finds an enormous ball of light. And what does he think? He thinks that the hotel is harboring a nuclear bomb and calls his former Chief in for back up.

As he is doing that, Donna is sitting at the bar with Lola, having a drink, discussing Dean, and wondering why their regular inspector sent a human. As Lola explains that Ben has a fail-safe in place for events such as this, Dean shows up. Donna agrees to show him around, not knowing that he has snooped, and he has seen the enormous ball of light in the basement.

As he is telling her all of that, a fire alarm goes off. They get to the burning room, and Donna says that she can recruit a guest to help with the fire. She orders Dean to get everyone out, but before he could do that, they hear a woman screaming for help.

In the room, there are two people, a woman and a man. The man is hindered with the woman trying with all of her might to help him. Donna decides to get a hydra to help suck out the oxygen in the air. Dean, of course, is confused. It was at this point that the man passes out, and Dean makes the startling realization that Moe is very heavy. Heavy enough that he can’t lift him.

Donna reveals that Moe is a yeti and that the hotel is not what he thinks it should be. The crane he saw in the doorway of the hotel room ends up being an 8-foot tall lizard with 50 heads. That he saw witches pushing cauldrons in the hallway and that the woman with Moe was a pixie. He also realized that the nuclear weapon he thought he saw was magic.

But it was when Donna shifted into a bear that his mind was blown. After Moe came too and walked away with his pixie girlfriend, Donna and Dean were alone in her office. After she gets dressed, Dean demands answers. Donna counters with a game of Five Card Stud. As they play, and she answers his questions, it turns into strip Five Card Stud, and that gets interrupted by his ex-chief.

I thought that this was a great book to wrap up the Bear Shifter Billionaire Series. What better than with a hunky firefighter and a bear shifter?

Dean did bother me a bit. Usually, I like it when my hero is a bit grumpy, but he had a massive chip on his shoulder, and he was sneaky.

I did like Donna. She was dealing with an awful situation and took charge like a boss.

I had to laugh when Dean found the magic snowflake in the basement and thought it was a nuclear bomb. But, considering at that point, he did not know anything magical, I would have assumed the same thing.

I thought Dean and Donna were a cute couple and loved them when they played strip Five Card Stud. I never thought of Five Card Stud as a game for stripping, but thinking about it, it could be.

The end of the book was adorable.

My review:

Sally loves her job as manager of the Wondernasium Ice Hotel (the hotel that caused Cleo to be hexed in Alpha’s Mates). It is a challenging job. She has high maintenance customers that keep her and the staff on their toes. The hotel is located next door to the Winter Wondernasium theme park, and she isn’t complaining about her hot boss.

There is one tiny problem. The hotel’s guests are all supernatural beings, and Sally has no clue. Anything that happens out of the ordinary, Sally’s brain normalizes it.

Sally is called to a disturbance at the honeymoon suite of the hotel. Mr. and Mrs. Nosferatu and their bodyguard are upset over a T-Bone steak that is barely cooked. They cornered the bellhop that delivered it. Sally sends the bellhop to her office. She attempts to smooth things over and ends up getting roughed up by the bodyguard. Scared to death (especially after the comment that Mr. Nosferatu about her being a suitable replacement for a meal), she screams and gets rescued by her boss, Ben Broyles. After being reassured that those people were going to be thrown out of the hotel, Sally goes back to work.

Ben ends up at Audrey’s to let off steam and anger after the escapes at the hotel. Ben is attracted to Sally but is afraid of telling her the truth about the hotels and its guests. He discusses with Audrey and Lola how he is going to tell Sally the truth before the conclave. Representatives from all the supernatural races will be there, and it will be pretty hard to keep Sally in the dark.

He drops a bombshell on Lola and Audrey. Arctic goblins will be attending. Arctic goblins were the cause of Ben’s clan of polar bears’ deaths. Ben was away on a supply run when someone pumped poisonous gas into the ice dwellings, killing every single man, woman, and child in there. Soon afterward, the goblins bought the land and mined it. While Ben knew that it was the goblins who killed his family, he didn’t have proof. And they were coming to the hotel.

The plan to tell Sally about the hotel backfired on Ben. Sally’s eyes were bothering her and she thinks she is getting a headache. Lola deposits her on a sofa and lays down on it. The only thing, it wasn’t a sofa. It was Ben in polar bear form. He shifts while she was having an erotic day-dream about him. She realizes that he can turn into a polar bear and freaks out. As she is freaking out, all the electronics in Ben’s office shorts out.

Ben goes to Audreys. He tells Lola and Audrey what happened, including the shorting out of the electronics. Lola and Audrey do a little research, thanks to Audrey’s Gram’s Bartender Guide, and they figure out that Sally is a witch. At that point, Ben has to go back to the hotel. Sally is still MIA after her freak out.

While dealing with unhappy guests, an emergency happens. An Ifrit had been served a magical drink, and those types of drinks injure Ifrits. In her rage and pain, the Ifrit demolished her room and melted a hole in the ceiling above her. Ben has one thought: the goblins were behind hurting the Ifrit.

Lola takes Sally away to Audreys. There, she is told that she is a lighting witch and asked about her parents (she is adopted). They then hold a swift lesson in magic and sent her back to the hotel and back to Ben.

Ben is dealing with unhappy guests and a goblin who is trying to stir up trouble. Sally finds Ben and he tells her about his family. She decides that she would help Ben try to nail the goblins for his family’s murder. She was able to go through the computers, using her newly discovered magic, and get a ton of information that the goblins stored there. Which, thinking about it, is rather stupid. Who would keep e receipts of a crime? In her search, she also finds out something else. Something huge that the supernatural conclave needs to know.

But the conclave can wait. Ben and Sally have, um, better things to do. Like getting busy on a bed made up of bear furs and ice slabs.

Will the goblins get theirs? Will Ben and Sally be together?

Another great read from A.J. Tipton. She is fast becoming one of my favorite erotica/paranormal writers. Even though this is a short story, it is written as though it is a full-length book. The storylines (main and secondary) was great and kept me engaged for the whole book.

Sally was awesome. Even after seeing Ben shift and freaking out, she came back. Her lusting after Ben was cute because you know he was doing the same thing and when they finally did have sex, it was good.

I felt awful for Ben. I couldn’t imagine knowing who killed his entire clan and not being able to do a thing about it — then having to let them stay at his hotel. It would have driven me nuts. His crush on Sally was adorable (like I said above), and I loved how he went to Lola and Audrey for advice on what to do.

The end of the book was pretty good, and I was pretty impressed with how the goblin situation was resolved.

Book synopsis:

A CEO under attack by a vengeful coven. Two farmhands with a ranch in trouble. Can these three save each other?

Cleo has everything under control: she’s a wildly successful CEO, Alpha of a powerful bear shifter clan, and a total knockout. When a business deal puts her on the wrong side of powerful witches, she’s exiled to the middle of nowhere. Cursed to be unable to interact with electronics, Cleo has to trust the kindness of two handsome ranch hands to get back to her old life.

Titus, a cursed dragon shifter, and Connor, gifted with supernatural intuition, are not used to company. When their ranch–a sanctuary for magical creatures–is threatened, the men must rely on their strength and Cleo’s resourcefulness to save the day. Will Cleo be too distracted by her own plan for revenge to realize she may have found her true loves?

Alpha’s Mates is an MFM paranormal romance novella in the “Bear Shifter Billionaire” series, a set of stand-alone stories that sizzle and satisfy. If you like steamy romance, wet and wild firefighting, and a literal roll in the hay, then you’ll love this breathtaking book.

My review:

Cleo had pissed off a coven of witches by suggesting that they use magic to keep an ice hotel frozen during the summer months and, when the coven refused, offering it to another coven instead. They had been pelting her office windows with hate mail (paper mail to be exact). Cleo wasn’t backing down, no matter how sacred that the Moon Glow coven says that magic is.

She was rummaging through her purse, talking to her assistant and looking for her car keys. When she touches the door to her car, she is transported to the middle of nowhere. When she tries to use her phone, she finds out that it is hexed. She decides to shift to her bear form. While she is deciding where she should go, she finds a captivating scent and decides to follow it.

Titus and Connor are ranch hands on a ranch that is a sanctuary for magical creatures. Titus is a dragon shifter who was cursed when he was 6. When his family discovered that he couldn’t shift, they exiled him. Luckily, Connor, who can see a magical being’s true form, found him. He was able to see Titus’s true form and was able to convince his family to take him in. They have been best friends ever since.

They were alerted that something or someone was coming because the animals in the sanctuary were spooked. What they saw was Cleo running towards the ranch.

Cleo asks if she could use their phone and asks about the sanctuary. She goes into the house, shifted as a bear, and had a close encounter with Daisy, a hell-hound. After changing back to human form, Cleo uses the phone and discovers that if she touches their cell phones, she shorts them out. But if she hands them back to Titus and Connor, they become charged again. Also, if they dial the phone for her, static overtook her voice. If she went near their truck, it would stall and die but worked fine for the boys.

To ease her anger, Connor decides to give her a tour of the ranch. She is in awe seeing animals that she had thought a myth. She went over to pat the unicorns and were met by the centaurs. These centaurs were the wise centaurs that Cleo had heard about. These were, well, not smart.

That night, over dinner, Connor and Titus fill Cleo in on their backgrounds. They tell her that they barely date because they like to share their women, and they can’t find many women that are willing to be in a menage. They also tell Cleo that it is hard to keep the ranch afloat with all the expenses and debt that they have.

Later that night, the centaur and unicorn’s stable catches on fire because of a phoenix flying over. Both men had been lax in keeping track of the molting cycle, one was flying around, and it dropped one of its feathers onto the stable. Connor was able to contain the fire enough to get the unicorns out, but the centaurs were still trapped. They were calling for help (which made me so sad to read). As Titus and Cleo attempt to rescue the centaurs out, 4 of them escape, leaving one in the barn. Titus runs into the stable to save the last one, and Cleo is stunned. She forgets that he is a dragon, and he can’t get burned.

Cleo is so relieved that she decides, on the spot, to have sex with both. On the ground, while covered with soot and in front of the centaurs. That sex scene was beyond hot.

I thought Cleo to be a complete bitch at the beginning of the book. I felt that she deserved what she got when she was transported to the middle of nowhere at the beginning of the book. But then, I changed my mind. She needed a break from her hectic lifestyle, and she needed to rethink how she treated people (I know a few people who need to do that).

I liked Connor and Titus. They both had soft hearts (running a sanctuary for supernatural animals), and they both are good looking. Plus, Titus can walk through fire and not get burned.

The sex scenes, as always, were hot, hot, hot. With there being two guys and one woman, every scene was a scorcher.

The end of the book was what I expected but sweet at the same time.
