Goodreads synopsis:

Dangerously tasty

Ned is tired of being underestimated. He’s a motorcycle-riding dragon shifter who kicks ass and bakes a mean cheesecake. When a mission for his biker club, the Iron Claws, leads Ned to the famously promiscuous tiger shifter clan, he finds much more than he bargained for.

Maya’s a cunning tiger shifter and her clan’s head of security. She has always defied her clan’s sex-obsessed ways, but meeting handsome, sensitive Ned makes her question her cynical views. When Ned’s club is attacked, Maya and Ned are thrown into a battle with deadly stakes. Will Maya be willing to lose all she has to save Ned?

This novella for adults includes daring rescues, drool-worthy desserts, and a love that can’t be whisked away.

My review:

I will admit that I had a “moment” when reading Her Delicious Dragon. As I started reading, I was thinking to myself “Ned seems awfully familiar” but I couldn’t place him. It was when he was telling Maya about his past that the darn light bulb went “Ding”. Ned was the bellhop in Alpha’s Domain and Alpha’s Christmas Flame. The bellhop that I thought, for some reason, was a teenager. Don’t ask me why I thought that. I just assumed it (remember that old saying about assuming…..yeah).

Ned was a sweetheart in this book. I mean, what guy would not make a move on a girl in the middle of an orgy. Ned!!! He was also somewhat of a pacifist (I say somewhat because he did see action in the first book) and he could cook. My mouth was watering at the descriptions of what he baked and I thought to myself “I wish he was real. I would kidnap him and keep him in my kitchen”. Then thought “Yeah, BK would LOVE that”….lmao.

Maya was not your typical tiger shifter. Tiger shifters banged anything with two legs (or more) and did not believe in monogamy but Maya, well she was different. I did like her but she came off as prickly at the beginning of the book. Real prickly but it was explained why she was the way she was and it made sense.

The sex, as always, was insanely hot. I really enjoyed the talons and claws that were used to shred clothing. Not torn off but shredded. Always a sign of great sex….lol.

The Puff storyline was in full force and of course, the Dragon High Council made a big appearance towards the end. Which made me think….what else could they have up their sleeves?

How many stars will I give Her Delicious Dragon: 4

Why: A great book with hot sex scenes and a fantastic storyline.

Will I reread: Yes

Will I recommend to family and friends: Yes

Why: Sex, violence, and language

Goodreads synopsis:

Sexy dragon shifter Dylan Masters seeks redemption for his past by hunting for the Iron Claws, a motorcycle club of exiled dragons with an illicit agenda. When Dylan finally joins them, he is thrown into a new world of shady dealings and powerful enemies. Even in the midst of chaos, everything changes when he lays eyes on the Iron Claws’s brilliant Latina nurse, Marie.

Curvaceous Marie rides alongside the Iron Claws as their human medic, journeying from town to town dispensing magical remedies to those in desperate need. Experience has taught her to shield her heart, but when the dashing Dylan joins the club, she may have finally found a reason to let her guard down. But will her dangerous past cut her happiness short once more?

This adult novella includes naughty nurses, dramatic dragon brawls, and a passionate love that heals all wounds.

My review:

I know I have said this in past reviews, but A.J. Tipton is fast becoming one of my favorite paranormal/fantasy/romance/erotica writers. I was super excited to read the Her Biker Dragon series and I wasn’t let down. This series was fantastic and the books had me hooked. I think I devoured the series in 2 days.

Dylan was a hottie with a sad history. I can see why he wanted to join the Iron Claws and distribute Puff (by the way, love the play on wordage there….I was singing “Puff the Magic Dragon” in my head the entire series). He was an investigator and wanted to bring his skills to the club. His reaction, and his dragon’s, to Marie was great and I really like that he didn’t beat around the bush to get what he wanted.

Marie had an equally sad back story. She found out about Puff when Big Joe gave her some while she was dying of cancer in a hospital and she decided to join their cause. But there was also a far more sinister reason she was more than willing to go on the run with the Iron Claws as their medic (read the book!!).

The sex scenes between Dylan and Marie were hot, hot, hot. I was also pretty excited that I finally got a peek into the back room at AUDREY’s. I was a little let down, though. I thought it was going to be more interesting instead of being your standard backroom…lol. But still, the sex went there….haha.

The storylines were pretty simple. The Puff one wasn’t resolved by any means (even though there was a pretty awesome fight scene) but Marie’s was.

How many stars will I give Her Valiant Dragon: 4

Why: I enjoyed reading this short story. The storylines were great, the sex scenes were hot and I loved the dragon MC!!

The Watcher – Book 2

Where you can find this book: Amazon

Goodreads synopsis:

Hell-bent on avenging his own death, former Keeper Dev Geary eagerly accepts when the Watchers task him with returning to the human realm to discover the secret for rendering Similitude—the very thing that killed him.

But to succeed in the seven days he’s been granted, he’ll need to work with the one human who wants nothing to do with him, and who he can’t help falling for—Meda Gabriel, a cagey, street-smart bar owner with a unique skill set, and maybe, the key to his mission.

With the clock ticking and the Betrayers barely a step behind, can Dev conquer his demons and find the answers the clan so desperately needs, with Meda at his side? Can love find a way, or will he be forced to abandon her and the clan, leaving them all to face imminent destruction?

My review:

The Watcher is the 2nd book in the Crossing Realms series. Told in 3rd person, this is Dev Greary’s story and oh boy was it a good one. Brought back from death, Dev has 7 days to convince Meda Gabriel, a woman with the power to read minds, to help Dev in his mission. He has to outwit Abel, Haenous’s son and now the leader of the Betrayers while trying to figure out how to keep them from making more Similitude and keeping the Betrayers from destroying not only Earth but the realm that the Watchers are from.

I will be honest, Dev annoyed me. He had such a huge chip on his shoulder about repaying a debt to Nick. He took unnecessary risks and one day it caught up to him and he was killed. Even as a Watcher in Training, he took those same type of risks. Like the beginning scene where he was climbing the mountain and was standing over the edge of the ravine while it was crumbling. But, the more I got to know him, the more it made sense he was taking these risks. I also could see why The Watchers chose him to carry out the mission.

Meda was a little harder to get a handle on in the beginning but as the author started to reveal what made her tick, I could see why she shut herself off from people. When she talked about how she got the scar on her face, I wanted to bawl (ok, I might have cried a bit). I liked that she took no crap from Dev. I really think that he needed someone in his life-like that before he died. Just saying. What I also really liked is that the author chose to include Native American mythology when they were making Flint. I thought that little myth was very interesting and it totally went with the story (click here for the legend of Flint).

The romance between Meda and Dev wasn’t a slow burn. It couldn’t be, seeing that he had only 7 days to do what he had to do. It was explosive and I loved it. Sometimes life doesn’t have time for a slow burn romance. The sex scenes between Meda and Dev were intense and off the page sizzling.

Now, I am going to do something I barely do but I have to talk about Abel, the Broodmaster of the Betrayers.

All I have to say is wow. Have to be Amazon PC, he is not a very nice guy and was determined to follow in Haenous’s footsteps. I did feel for him though, because it seemed like his father abused him (big flag to me was when he was starved by his father energy-wise) and he was always picked on by the other children because he always wore sweaters, even in the summer, because he was always cold. He felt that he couldn’t love Magpie (even though she was completely head over heels in love with him) and he wanted to destroy his niece, Jordan, who he considered a half-breed.

But any feelings of being sad for him were wiped in the last couple of chapters of the book. All I have to say is that I hope he gets what is coming for him. And poor Magpie. I wanted to cry for her. She didn’t seem inherently bad…..just following orders from her Master. I also felt awful for Jordan.

While Dev and Meda’s storyline was kinda wrapped up (I have a feeling that something that Meda said couldn’t happen has happened), the main storyline wasn’t and it looks like it is just revving up.

How many stars will I give The Watcher: 4

Why: This was an action-packed romance right from the get-go. The characters were a bit prickly to read and I honestly thought Dev was annoying in the beginning, but they grew on me and I grew to love them. The storyline was fantastic and I can’t wait for Book 3 (Curtis and Jordan’s story???) to come out.

Royal Scandal – Book 1

Goodreads synopsis:

Forced to flee to the United States with his siblings after their parents’ assassination, Crown Prince Colin Sinclair takes it upon himself to become the caretaker of his family while hiding out near Charlotte, North Carolina. But after a decade in hiding, the secret’s out and Parliament demands that Colin wed a princess of their choosing. Unwilling to play their game, Colin decides to marry an American instead, and he has the perfect candidate in mind.

As a home-service professional, Della Hughes doesn’t believe in storybook endings. But when her best friend and secret crush reveals that he’s a flesh-and-blood prince, she doesn’t know what to think. Still, she’ll do anything for Colin, including becoming his wife—in name only, of course. But when their plans to stay purely platonic go by the wayside, their fake honeymoon turns all too real. After a week of white-hot nights, Della can no longer deny her feelings—not with a happily ever after so tantalizingly close.

My review:

Colin Sinclair’s parents, they were assassinated by a rebel faction in their home country, the Isle of Man. Almost immediately after they were killed, Colin and his siblings were exiled from their kingdom by that country’s Parliament. Where were they exiled too? America, more exactly a suburb one hour outside of Charlotte. Which is a pretty crappy thing to do to two teenagers, two tweens, a toddler and an infant.

Colin meets Della during an angry confrontation over him evicting her family from their cottage on the grounds where Colin’s house is. After realizing that he might have signed the papers without looking at them (and possibly being sleep deprived), he apologizes to Della and tells her that her family can stay indefinitely. During this time, Della meets Pierce and Aiden and falls in love with them.

Fast forward 10 years,

Della and Colin have become best friends (and each is harboring a secret crush on one another) and are co-raising Colin’s brothers, Pierce and Aiden. Della doesn’t know that Pierce and Aiden are Colin’s brothers. Even more, Colin hasn’t come clean that he is royalty. Actually, any of his family, to be honest. Imogene, his sister, is the Queen with Charlotte, Theo, Pierce, and Aiden as Princes. Della just thinks that Colin is a suave businessman who goes to London, a lot.

Colin is summoned to London by Prime Minister Davies, a nasty old man who is the head of the Parliament of Colin’s kingdom. He has news regarding their exile (which Colin has been tirelessly petitioning to lift it) and needs Colin to fly into London ASAP. When he goes to the meeting, he gave a proposal. Their exile will be lifted if he A) marries a woman of their choosing and B) Parliament crowns him as King. Bit of a side note, this is a matriarchal rulership. There has always been a Queen… never a King.

Colin decides to take matters into his own hands regarding who he is going to marry. He refuses to be pushed into a marriage like his grandmother and mother and he refuses to let the Parliament push him around anymore. He decides that he is going to tell Della who he is and then ask her to marry him.

The sex between Colin and Della seemed forced and I saw no connection between them, sexually. Not that it wasn’t hot, because they were flaming hot. Maybe it was because I thought that there was really no attraction. We had no build up. No flirting. Just, getting married and hopping into bed.

I did like Colin a lot. From the minute his parents died, he assumed responsibility for his brothers and sisters and he started working on getting their exile repealed. At only 19. Of course, he had Beaumont, Tressie, and Della helping him. But still.

I liked Della too. She was sweet, sassy and loved Colin for who he was, not who he is (if that makes sense).

There were a couple of plot twists that took me by surprise and I thought I had figured out one but there was more to it and I was genuinely surprised. The other plot twist, which was revealed around the same time as the other one, kinda blew my mind. Not what I expected.

The ending was what I expected, with everything wrapped up neatly with a bow. And I loved the epilogue, that was 5 years later. Made me all teary eyed. I honestly can’t wait to read the rest of the books.

How many stars will I give Royal Scandal: 3

Why: I loved the book but I felt that the dialogue was stilted and the romance between Colin/Della seemed very forced. The book did lag in the middle but the author did recover nicely. Overall, a nice book that would be perfect for the beach/pool.

Goodreads synopsis:

If only life came with a script.

Anna Jeffries has spent the last thirty-two years blending in, content in her worn-out reading chair—her happy corner of the world—spinning romantic scenarios she’s certain reality can’t deliver. After three years of teaching Shakespeare at UC Berkeley, Anna is working toward full tenure. Her life in the classroom means everything and she can’t imagine wanting more… until she does.

Dane Sivac is in his second year as the wide receiver coach, and with new talent on the team this year, he’s beginning to think his future may hold a permanent position with Cal—as permanent as any coach can hope for. When his star receiver begins struggling on and off the field, the sports psychologist asks Dane for help. For Dane, emotions are best ignored, but his player’s seemingly uptight Shakespeare professor is driving Dane nuts… until she’s not.

Invested in the future of a student-athlete they’ve both come to care about, Dane and Anna are forced to work together. The attraction is undeniable, but opposing teams rarely get along. Right as Dane makes the type of romantic gesture Anna has only known in fiction, her career is threatened and she is reminded, playbook or not, she was never good at games.

My review:

I really enjoyed reading this book.  It was such a sweet romance and to be honest, after all the erotica and the wham-bam-thank you ma’am that I have read lately, I needed to read this. It was a balm to my brain.

I loved that the author chose to have Annabelle teaching Shakespeare at the University of Berkley. Shakespeare is my all time favorite playwright and to see his plays being taught in such a way that the students (even if it is fictional) were awesome.

I also liked the opposites attract theme. Annabelle and Dean couldn’t have been more different and to be honest, it works. They are just different enough that it keeps them both on their toes, relationship wise. The fact that they were first colleagues, then friends and then started their relationship was great. They didn’t jump right into bed with each other and when it did, it meant something to both of them.

I really connected with Annabelle. She was so passionate about what she teaches and it rubs off on her students. I just wish that she was more assertive earlier in the book. Because it would have gotten rid of a lot of her stress (read the book if you want to find out).

Speaking of that, and I truly don’t know this, is it normal for a committee to be so interested in an associate professor’s personal life when they are applying for tenure? Because even I lifted an eyebrow when they called Annabelle and questioned her about her kiss with Dean during the football game. Seemed a bit intrusive (and a lawsuit waiting to happen) to me.

Dean just melted my heart. He was such a nice guy and how hard he fell for Annabelle just melted my heart.

The secondary storyline of the tenure committee really ticked me off and I did a lot of eyerolls during Annabelle’s meetings with them. The other storyline of Trey was actually sad. But, I loved seeing him come out of his shell on the field and off. The talk that Dean had with Trey was perfect.

The end of the book was perfect. It was definitely a HEA!!!

How many stars will I give Playbook: 4

Why: I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a great read and it was something that I needed after reading a couple of eroticas.

Will I reread: Yes

Will I recommend to family and friends: Yes

Age range: Adult

Why: Sex, some language

Goodreads synopsis:

Heartbroken Emily moves across the country to cover an up-and-coming hockey team – much to her chagrin. Knowing that this could be her big break she leaves her entire life behind and moves to Kingstown, where she meets Sam, the star player of the hockey team and a rapidly rising star. Though he acts cocky in front of her, he slowly begins to reveal his insecurity and warm up to her.

This is a standalone novella with No cheating and with HEA ending. It’s guaranteed to keep you hot on a cold night, so prepare yourself for a few hours of fiery fun.

My review:

I really liked this novella. After the last book I read and reviewed (not that I didn’t like it, it was just drained me because of how intense it was),  I needed something that I could just sit back and not have to think too hard about. And Cutting Ice was this book.

Told from alternating 1st person perspectives, we are introduced to Emily, a 23ish-year-old sports reporter, who is from the BIG CITY. I put it in capital letters because, in the first chapter, Emily did make a big deal about moving to Kingston to do a story on the local hockey team. A long-term relationship was out of the question for her boyfriend (he wasn’t going to wait around for her), so she heads to her assignment single.

Sam is a member of the hockey team who has the chance to make it big but he is hesitating because he has never left Kingston. Ever. He meets Emily at practice and invites her out for drinks. It doesn’t take long for things between Sam and Emily heat up. It heats up to the point where they have sex in his car.

The rest of the book is pretty straightforward. Even though they both have sworn off of having sex with each other, it ends up happening.

I actually agree with a line from the book, towards the end, where Emily states that her friends think that Sam is a rebound relationship. I kinda agree with them and that isn’t a bad thing. Every girl needs a rebound relationship.

I do like that the “L” word wasn’t even mentioned in the book and I thought that was refreshing. I mean, they do end up together but they weren’t spouting off how much they were in love with each other.

The sex was pretty hot and the author used safe sex….gasp. Every single time they bumped uglies, a condom was brought out and put on. Which, again, was refreshing.

The end of the book was pretty standard. The way it ended does make me wonder if there are going to be other books written in this world.

How many stars will I give Cutting Ice: 4

Why: This is a good book to read at the beach or pool. The plot doesn’t go off in 8 different directions and there are only 2 MC’s.

Will I reread: Yes

Will I recommend to family and friends: Yes

Age range: Adult

Why: Explicit sex and language

Goodreads synopsis:

Chelsea Dwyer arrives home from her job at the middle-school library in Latham Hills, Michigan, expecting another quiet evening—until she hears the screams for help through her living room window. As the first witness to a terrible accident involving two local students, Chelsea doesn’t anticipate how her own life will be irrevocably changed by the father of one of the boys. In the wake of tragedy, she’s the only one who seems to understand his grief. Chelsea’s a survivor, too—and she knows that there are brighter days ahead.

As a single father, Aidan Deveraux worked his entire life to provide a stable home for his son, Derrick. Without him, Aidan feels the deepest despair imaginable. The one thing that keeps him going is his connection with the woman who tried to save his son. Hard as he tries, Aidan just can’t stay away. Chelsea’s warm embrace is the comforting solace he desperately craves—and it doesn’t hurt that Aidan had noticed the beautiful librarian and wanted to ask her out for years. Now that she’s in his life, he doesn’t ever want to let go.

My review:

What a sad book.

When I started reading it, I wasn’t expecting how much this book would hit me in the feels. I mean, I was ugly crying for most of the book. Maybe because I have a child that is a few years younger than Derrick was when he died but I was really affected by Aidan’s raw grief in this book. And oh boy, was it raw and it made me cry.

Aidan was a single dad who raised Derrick by himself after Derrick’s mother jetted when he was 2. Everything that Aidan did was for Derrick and when Derrick died, Aidan was lost and almost consumed by his grief. He would sit in his backyard and drink himself into a stupor. He was also trying to avoid woman he called “vultures”. They are Derrick’s friends’ single mothers who would come over and offer to “comfort” him. He didn’t want that. What he wanted was Chelsea but he was too consumed by grief to even begin to make a move.

Chelsea’s story was equally sad. Her husband divorced her because she couldn’t have children. Which is sad enough but she ran into her husband and his new wife, who was pregnant. Talk about a burn. She has, for the most part, has come to term with that she was “half a woman”….as her ex had told her. To say I greatly disliked her ex is an understatement.

Chelsea was also there for Derrick’s skateboarding accident. She stayed with him, cradling his head on her stomach. She stayed in the hospital while he was undergoing surgery and she was there when Aidan, who had just heard about the accident, was told that Derrick had died on the operating table. She was there for Aidan the day of the funeral and for those awful weeks afterward. Forget that she was very attracted to him, he didn’t need that type of attention. What he needed was a friend and that is what she gave him.

The side story of Derrick’s best friend was heart-wrenching. When I thought this book could get any sadder, the author threw in Shane’s side of the story and the guilt he was carrying. Like I said….this book is a waterworks factory.

When the relationship between Aidan and Chelsea turned physical, the sex scenes were hot, hot, hot. But what made it even hotter for me was that they were friends for months before they even had sex and when they did, the sex meant something to them both.

This book was told mainly from Chelsea’s point of view with Aidan’s showing up every so often. Which I liked and it worked for this book.

The end of the book was definitely not what I expected and I loved it. What Aidan said at the very last line made my heart melt and again, waterworks.

How many stars will I give His to Cherish: 5

Why: This is not an easy book to read. Not at all and I am sure it wasn’t easy to write. The author did a great job capturing a parent’s raw grief over losing a child to a preventable accident and she did a great job showing while it might get better, the pain never goes away. The romance between Chelsea and Aidan was also very realistic and I loved how it started off as friends, moved to lovers and then, after Aidan’s screw up, to boyfriend/girlfriend. I liked that the sex was secondary and not at the forefront of this story (and don’t get me wrong, it was very hot when they did end up bumping uglies). The secondary storylines, while hard to read, were wrapped up in such a way that you couldn’t help but wonder what is going to happen to Mandy and Shane.

Will I reread: Yes

Will I recommend to family and friends: Yes

Age range: Adult

Why: Explicit sex (of course), language, some mild violence. And also some pretty intense scenes of grief.

Book synopsis:

Nick Geary, jaded clan leader of human guardians, the Keepers, is doomed to love a human woman who’s forgotten him, time after time, for thirteen years: Libby Klink, a skittish accountant who’s as terrified of her recent and strange intuitions as she is of her mundane existence.

When Nick is ordered by the clan’s guiding force to seek Libby’s help in defending the clan against enemy Betrayers, romance sizzles as the pair forms an unlikely alliance in their desperate search to discover the key to the clan’s salvation–which Libby alone holds.

But a haunting secret could cost Nick everything, and in a race against time, both will be forced to choose between their hearts and duty. Can their love, and the clan, survive, or will the very forces that drew them together ultimately destroy them?

My review:

A mysterious group is meeting on the top of a mountain to discuss specific events. Events that could be disastrous to their people if not stopped. The only way to stop/change the events is to set in motion a series of events that could help them or could mean the end of their people.

Meanwhile

Libby Klink is stuck in the mother of all traffic jams, late for work, and about to have a massive panic attack. She has severe anxiety about driving because of the accident she was in when she was 12. That accident killed her mother. Not only that, but she is smelling different scents around people, and she is having dreams about people that she doesn’t know. She also is still recovering from the death of her father six months before. To put it mildly, she’s a mess.

As she inches along the highway, she notices a man walking down the highway, looking into cars. Looking for someone, and he is heading in her direction. When he gets to her car, not only does he know her first and last name, but he seems vaguely familiar. Lowering her passenger side window, he says that he is unarmed, and when she asks who he is, says his name is Nick Geary and that he needs to talk to her. Knowing her name freaks her out, so she lays on the horn. That attracts the attention of the guy in the truck in front of her.

While she is staring at Nick, she experiences something like a day-dream that involves her father and a fishing trip that they had taken when she was younger. She blinks, comes to the present, sends her would-be rescuer away, and lets Nick into her car.

They drive to Nick’s truck, where he tells her that he needs her help but can’t tell her what because he doesn’t know. Then he tells her to get into the car, which she refuses to do. It is when Nick tells her that her life might be in danger and explains a few things that she gets into the truck

Nick explains that he is a Keeper, and he protects humans like Libby from these evil guys called Betrayers. Betrayers feed off of human weaknesses and Keepers Vitality (a stone that they wear around their necks). He validates everything that he said by telling her of the memory of her father she had in her car. He promises to protect her; she believes him and gets into the truck.

As Nick and Libby have that conversation and Nick are taking Libby to his parent’s house, the bad guy is introduced. His name is Haenus Vickery. He is wondering why Nick was protecting Libby and wants to know what her deal is. As he walks, he remembers his mate, Genevieve, who I am going to assume died at some point in his past, and he is thinking out the details of the next step in the war against the Keepers. Haenus is hoping to overthrow them, somehow, so that fear and hopelessness reigned.

Nick explains more of what a Keeper does as they drive to his parents. He shares that his cousin and best friend, Dev, died after a Betrayer got him alone and stole his vitality, last week. Nick explains that the Watchers, beings that live in another realm parallel to the humans, send things called Compulsions to the Keepers with who they are supposed to help. He explains that Keepers live in Clans and that they are all connected.

Then a weird thing happens. Nick and Libby are hit by a car and approached by a knife-wielding woman who is screaming that they cut her off. Seeing no choice, Nick cuts across the highway median to make his getaway. As they are driving the opposite direction, Libby is full of questions about Nick, and he does his best to answer them. It was during that conversation that both get a compulsion about a woman in trouble in an alley.

On their way to help her, Nick discovers that she can smell things, like the whiskey that the woman had been drinking. She confirms that and tells him that only since her father died that she has been able to smell things. Libby tells Nick that she wants to help him, and he says no. But she doesn’t listen and is forced into a confrontation with Haenus. As he is draining Nick, she hurts Haenus, and that makes him stop. Nick, before the encounter with Haenus, kisses Libby and finds out something startling. She isn’t what she seems to be.

This book was not what I thought it was going to be. I felt that it was going to be a thriller/suspense book. Not a romance/thriller/suspense, and it took me by surprise. I loved it!!!

I could relate to Libby. As someone who has pretty severe anxiety, I liked how she was portrayed. I liked how her taking medication wasn’t used as a crutch but explained that she needed it to do daily things. She was such a strong person, and I thought the author did a great job of bringing it out.

Nick was perfect for Libby, and I sincerely wish that he existed in real life. He waited 13 years and had to deal with her forgetting him every time he helped her, which sucked because he was head over heels for her. I do think that the way that they finally met was a tad weird (hello, middle of the freeway), and maybe the love angle was rushed. But when the end of your world is about to happen, you can’t wait for months.

Haenus was a bad dude. My mental image of him was like a vampire except that he could come out during the day. I did also have a smidge of sympathy for him because his wife died, but that quickly got swept away with how evil he was to Libby.

The sex between Nick and Libby was hot, and dare I say sweet? I have never said sex was sweet before, but this was, and I might have wept a little during it because of the feeling between both of them. As I said, I wish Nick was real.

The ending was PERFECT!!! I couldn’t have ended a book any better, and the author did a great job in setting up Dev’s story.

I would give The Keeper an Adult rating. There is sex. There is language. There is mild violence. I would recommend that no one under the age of 21 read this book.

I would reread The Keeper. I would recommend it to family and friends.

Book synopsis:

A sexy fireman broken from his last rescue. A beautiful bear shifter hiding from her family’s fame. When magical secrets are discovered, will their love stand strong after the smoke clears?

Dean Michaelson loved being a firefighter until he was injured on duty. When his new job as a fire inspector takes him to the ice hotel where Donna works, he fears he’s stumbled upon a nuclear deathtrap. Suspecting the lusciously curvy manager, Donna, is hiding the truth, Dean has no choice but to investigate on his own, unaware he is entering an underworld of danger and magic. Will the attraction building between Dean and Donna be extinguished before it has a chance to spark?

The brilliant bear shifter Donna Mechka is a billionaire in hiding, working the desk at a magical ice hotel. She wants to throw aside the reputation of her wealthy family and find somebody who loves her for her mind, not her money. When a human ex-firefighter, Dean, walks into her hotel on Christmas Eve, it seems she might have found the man of her dreams. But when Dean’s investigations bring him closer to discovering the hotel’s magical secrets, Donna must decide which is more important: protecting the hotel, or her budding love.

Alpha’s Christmas Flame is a holiday, paranormal romance novella in the “Bear Shifter Billionaire” series, a set of stand-alone stories that sizzle and satisfy. If you like brave pixies, smoldering strip poker, and holiday heat, then you’ll love this breathtaking book.

My review:

Dean Michaelson hates Christmas. He was injured fighting a fire last Christmas, and his injury has landed him on a desk job. Not where he wants to be. He wants to be out there, fighting fires and not going to upscale hotels, doing annual inspections of their fire and emergency precautions. And not dealing with receptionists who are either ignoring him or buttering him up for something.

Donna Mechka is working at the front desk at the Wondernasium Hotel when this hot firefighter walks in and tells her that he needs to do an annual inspection. She tries to put him off, explaining that they are short-staffed due to the flu and a bellhop who decided to join a motorcycle club. He checks into the hotel and, when Donna is distracted, he decides to go check things out by himself.

Which ends up to be not such a smart thing. In Dean’s snooping, he opens a door called the electrical room and finds an enormous ball of light. And what does he think? He thinks that the hotel is harboring a nuclear bomb and calls his former Chief in for back up.

As he is doing that, Donna is sitting at the bar with Lola, having a drink, discussing Dean, and wondering why their regular inspector sent a human. As Lola explains that Ben has a fail-safe in place for events such as this, Dean shows up. Donna agrees to show him around, not knowing that he has snooped, and he has seen the enormous ball of light in the basement.

As he is telling her all of that, a fire alarm goes off. They get to the burning room, and Donna says that she can recruit a guest to help with the fire. She orders Dean to get everyone out, but before he could do that, they hear a woman screaming for help.

In the room, there are two people, a woman and a man. The man is hindered with the woman trying with all of her might to help him. Donna decides to get a hydra to help suck out the oxygen in the air. Dean, of course, is confused. It was at this point that the man passes out, and Dean makes the startling realization that Moe is very heavy. Heavy enough that he can’t lift him.

Donna reveals that Moe is a yeti and that the hotel is not what he thinks it should be. The crane he saw in the doorway of the hotel room ends up being an 8-foot tall lizard with 50 heads. That he saw witches pushing cauldrons in the hallway and that the woman with Moe was a pixie. He also realized that the nuclear weapon he thought he saw was magic.

But it was when Donna shifted into a bear that his mind was blown. After Moe came too and walked away with his pixie girlfriend, Donna and Dean were alone in her office. After she gets dressed, Dean demands answers. Donna counters with a game of Five Card Stud. As they play, and she answers his questions, it turns into strip Five Card Stud, and that gets interrupted by his ex-chief.

I thought that this was a great book to wrap up the Bear Shifter Billionaire Series. What better than with a hunky firefighter and a bear shifter?

Dean did bother me a bit. Usually, I like it when my hero is a bit grumpy, but he had a massive chip on his shoulder, and he was sneaky.

I did like Donna. She was dealing with an awful situation and took charge like a boss.

I had to laugh when Dean found the magic snowflake in the basement and thought it was a nuclear bomb. But, considering at that point, he did not know anything magical, I would have assumed the same thing.

I thought Dean and Donna were a cute couple and loved them when they played strip Five Card Stud. I never thought of Five Card Stud as a game for stripping, but thinking about it, it could be.

The end of the book was adorable.

Book synopsis:

A billionaire bear shifter haunted by his past. A hyper-organized hotel manager on the cusp of a life-changing realization. Will they save each other from the past, and make their future together?

Sally is the curvy and brilliant manager of the Wondernasium Ice Hotel who thinks she has everything handled. A whole hodgepodge of supernaturals shooting fireballs in the lobby? Handled. Guests, who try to eat the other guests? No problem. But there’s one thing Sally can’t manage: her desire for her boss. When a steamy encounter in Ben’s office turns her entire world upside down, Sally has to choose if she can embrace the magic within, or flee from her true self.

Billionaire shifter Ben Broyles inherited his fortune after his clan was brutally slaughtered. He built his magical ice hotel as a sanctuary for supernaturals in a dangerous world. But when the evil goblins responsible for his family’s murder check-in, Ben must stop them from destroying all he’s created. With his hotel–and his life–on the line, Ben is forced to risk everything before it’s too late.

My review:

Sally loves her job as manager of the Wondernasium Ice Hotel (the hotel that caused Cleo to be hexed in Alpha’s Mates). It is a challenging job. She has high maintenance customers that keep her and the staff on their toes. The hotel is located next door to the Winter Wondernasium theme park, and she isn’t complaining about her hot boss.

There is one tiny problem. The hotel’s guests are all supernatural beings, and Sally has no clue. Anything that happens out of the ordinary, Sally’s brain normalizes it.

Sally is called to a disturbance at the honeymoon suite of the hotel. Mr. and Mrs. Nosferatu and their bodyguard are upset over a T-Bone steak that is barely cooked. They cornered the bellhop that delivered it. Sally sends the bellhop to her office. She attempts to smooth things over and ends up getting roughed up by the bodyguard. Scared to death (especially after the comment that Mr. Nosferatu about her being a suitable replacement for a meal), she screams and gets rescued by her boss, Ben Broyles. After being reassured that those people were going to be thrown out of the hotel, Sally goes back to work.

Ben ends up at Audrey’s to let off steam and anger after the escapes at the hotel. Ben is attracted to Sally but is afraid of telling her the truth about the hotels and its guests. He discusses with Audrey and Lola how he is going to tell Sally the truth before the conclave. Representatives from all the supernatural races will be there, and it will be pretty hard to keep Sally in the dark.

He drops a bombshell on Lola and Audrey. Arctic goblins will be attending. Arctic goblins were the cause of Ben’s clan of polar bears’ deaths. Ben was away on a supply run when someone pumped poisonous gas into the ice dwellings, killing every single man, woman, and child in there. Soon afterward, the goblins bought the land and mined it. While Ben knew that it was the goblins who killed his family, he didn’t have proof. And they were coming to the hotel.

The plan to tell Sally about the hotel backfired on Ben. Sally’s eyes were bothering her and she thinks she is getting a headache. Lola deposits her on a sofa and lays down on it. The only thing, it wasn’t a sofa. It was Ben in polar bear form. He shifts while she was having an erotic day-dream about him. She realizes that he can turn into a polar bear and freaks out. As she is freaking out, all the electronics in Ben’s office shorts out.

Ben goes to Audreys. He tells Lola and Audrey what happened, including the shorting out of the electronics. Lola and Audrey do a little research, thanks to Audrey’s Gram’s Bartender Guide, and they figure out that Sally is a witch. At that point, Ben has to go back to the hotel. Sally is still MIA after her freak out.

While dealing with unhappy guests, an emergency happens. An Ifrit had been served a magical drink, and those types of drinks injure Ifrits. In her rage and pain, the Ifrit demolished her room and melted a hole in the ceiling above her. Ben has one thought: the goblins were behind hurting the Ifrit.

Lola takes Sally away to Audreys. There, she is told that she is a lighting witch and asked about her parents (she is adopted). They then hold a swift lesson in magic and sent her back to the hotel and back to Ben.

Ben is dealing with unhappy guests and a goblin who is trying to stir up trouble. Sally finds Ben and he tells her about his family. She decides that she would help Ben try to nail the goblins for his family’s murder. She was able to go through the computers, using her newly discovered magic, and get a ton of information that the goblins stored there. Which, thinking about it, is rather stupid. Who would keep e receipts of a crime? In her search, she also finds out something else. Something huge that the supernatural conclave needs to know.

But the conclave can wait. Ben and Sally have, um, better things to do. Like getting busy on a bed made up of bear furs and ice slabs.

Will the goblins get theirs? Will Ben and Sally be together?

Another great read from A.J. Tipton. She is fast becoming one of my favorite erotica/paranormal writers. Even though this is a short story, it is written as though it is a full-length book. The storylines (main and secondary) was great and kept me engaged for the whole book.

Sally was awesome. Even after seeing Ben shift and freaking out, she came back. Her lusting after Ben was cute because you know he was doing the same thing and when they finally did have sex, it was good.

I felt awful for Ben. I couldn’t imagine knowing who killed his entire clan and not being able to do a thing about it — then having to let them stay at his hotel. It would have driven me nuts. His crush on Sally was adorable (like I said above), and I loved how he went to Lola and Audrey for advice on what to do.

The end of the book was pretty good, and I was pretty impressed with how the goblin situation was resolved.
